If you are a crafter, Great Parties—Crafting Festive Celebrations by Leslie Carola is just the party book for you. Make your upcoming gatherings for friends and family more special with handmade details to delight.

Leslie Carola is the author of numerous papercrafting books, and she puts her papercrafting skills to use in this party book.

Carola said in her foreword: “Our goal is to flood your senses with manageable craft projects that are simple, sophisticated-but-not formal, casual-yet-stylish imaginative and inexpensive. Imagination and creativity are what inspires a party décor, not how much it costs. A stylish party does not have be inexpensive. Little things do count, and they do mean a lot. … We offer simple ways to express your own style creatively by adapting what you have and using it in your own way, in a new way.”

Filled with color photographs and clear instructions for the many projects, Great Parties includes many inspiring handmade projects that can make a simple meal or a special party more memorable. Carola includes placecards, triangle boxes, napkin bands and rings, invitations, menus, coasters, decorated pillar candles and templates for favor boxes, cube boxes, and pinwheels.

Great Parties shows you how to make ribbon roses with wired ribbon and a whole page of possibilities for making paper quilling decorations.

There are photographs of special breakfasts, engagement and summer patio luncheons, a July 4th picnic, a seaside dinner, a Halloween supper and more. You will see ideas for Easter festivities, a bridal shower tea, a wine and cheese gathering, a Thanksgiving dinner, a tree-trimming party and a New Year’s Eve party. One of my favorite party tables in the book is a children’s birthday party done in bright primary colors.

Get ideas for an end-of-school lawn party, a congratulations meal, fall-festive dinner party, a family reunion, Winter Zen dinner, and a romantic dinner. Carola shows you how to coordinate the details of your tables with the color scheme you chose. One of my very favorite projects in the book is the flower centerpiece arrangement with family photos; Carola shows how to make it ,as well as a similar one made with flowers and grapes and artichokes.
