When summer comes and the weather is pretty, relaxing with friends outside in the early evening after work is a true delight. Invite your neighbors and friends over to enjoy wine and cheese and crackers while you all let go of the day’s work. For some ideas of how to set up for this simple gathering, check out this outdoor wine party table.
Clean off your patio or deck table and chairs, and put out a tablecloth or placemats. This time I chose my round purple straw placemats because the color picked up on the purple grapes in the cocktail party design appetizer plates I have. I added my dark green cotton napkins for the same reason. The rich jewel tones in the dishes, the mats and napkins, the wine itself, and the grapes in the centerpiece basket all stand out against the white of table and chairs.
The plate design gave me the perfect inspiration for a table centerpiece–the basket full of purple and white grapes, the bottles and glasses of red wines and cheeses and crackers–I just replicated the scene on the plate for the center of the table. At the top of each plate, I placed a small unpainted cheeseboard with an assortment of cheese and crackers for each guest. I found these cheeseboards with the unpainted wooden pieces at my local craft store for a dollar each. The guests could place some of the grapes from the basket on their plates and choose some of the cheese slices or wedges and crackers to do the same.
If it’s still really sunny when you start your party, you may want to add a big umbrella over your table to protect the food, wine and your guests. You might want to substitute a large pitcher of iced sangria for the wine. You could line your basket with foil and put ice cubes in the bottom to keep your grapes chilled.
Lean back in your chair and start sipping and nibbling! This table looks pretty, but takes no time to put together or to put away. Enjoy!
