Tablescape: Swimmers Congratulations Table

We have never had competitive swimmers in our family until my nephew and nieces started participating in swim team in their elementary and middle school years. Not only did they participate in swim team at their local pool, but they trained as and served as lifeguards as they got older. One niece then began swimming year-round on a local competitive team and got up at the crack of dawn to practice before school every day. She received a college swim scholarship and swims on their team as well as serving as swim teach coach and teacher at her local neighborhood swimming pool during the summers.

With all the competitions she has participated in and races she has won, I have always wanted to honor her with a swimmers congratulations table to celebrate her success. It only seemed appropriate to include some of her trophies as the centerpiece. I chose trophies that were not too large so our guests could see across the table while eating. Photos of your swimming champ at a meet could also be spread on the center of the table with the trophies. It seemed appropriate to tie the table décor into water as a theme since a swimmer spends so much time there. I found an inexpensive pair of aqua netting curtain panels at Dollar General that were embellished with sparkling sequins for a great underwater look. I used one of these panels over a white cotton tablecloth on the table so the sparkles and aqua color would show up, as they wouldn’t have over the wooden tabletop. These photos don’t capture the aqua color of the netting, but in reality, the color showed up well.I has aqua blue Royal Norfolk dinner plates which gave that cool feel and looked good with the tablecloth overlay.  Then I did an overlay on the aqua dinner plates–I added clear acrylic dinner plates with tiny bubbles in them. These dinner plates added the water theme in another way.  The last nod to the water theme was my set of flatware which have a tiny bubble design in the handles. You might use specialty congratulations napkins or cards with his or her photo on the dinner plates to congratulate your favorite swimmer. A pair of inexpensive swim goggles at each place-setting would also be an appropriate favor for your guests.

Honor your swim champ with a special congratulatory meal with family or friends! Celebrate with her/his fans! Enjoy!
