Tablescape: July 4 Family Fun Tablescape

I am such a patriotic geek that nothing excites me as much as setting different red, white and blue tablescapes. This July 4 Family Fun tablescape was a joy to create for many reasons. Our family river cottage, where we spend Independence Day, has two long rectangular tables that seat 10-12 people so it’s fun to work with the length in creating a tablescape since you usually don’t  have that chance. I used two pieces of cotton fabric–one is navy with white stars and the other is red and white striped–to mimic our American flag. Then I set the tables with white china dinnerplates, pewter colonial-style flatware, and clear glass Mason jars with small American flags in them. The red cotton napkins are rolled and bound with paper napkin rings with a free holiday printable found on the Internet.

I needed to create a centerpiece to extend down the length of the two tables. The family fun free printable I found on the Internet, which matches the napkin rings, has a picture of a Ferris wheel on it. I used a new red hamster wheel from the pet department of a discount store to look like a Ferris wheel and attached cardstock copies of the printable to each side of the wheel. The wheel was placed on a red star melamine plate I have and that was placed at the junction of the two tables. Next I placed four white melamine star-shaped plates equally spaced down the length of the tables and placed red, white and blue conversation hearts on them. Then I  sprinkled red and white striped starlight peppermint candies down the center of the table. The candies are a fun edible treat before or after dinner.

So borrow any of these ideas to make your July 4 dinner table more fun this year! Enjoy!
