I When summer is on the horizon, I begin thinking of patriotic colors and nautical/seaside elements. I just love using red, white and blue all summer with the Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day holidays as part of the season. Coastal and nautical elements obviously are part of the world of the beach and seaside. Over the years I have collected items that can interchangeably be used in tablescaping during the summer because I love the vibrant colors and feel of the season. You can adapt tablescapes of your own using some of these ideas in your own nautical red white and blue table.I used a plastic red and white stripe tablecloth that I found before one of the patriotic holidays. You could certainly use a solid color cloth. I set each placesetting with a red melamine plate. On top of each dinner plate, I layered a red and white striped paper plate, again found with patriotic décor, for color and/or appetizers. I also added a white ceramic star-shaped dish at each placesetting for condiments. Then on top of the appetizers plate, I placed a nautical paper napkin. The napkin is decorated with nautical items that bring more of the feel and the color for coastal life.
You can easily use blue instead of red as your strongest color and stars instead of stripes as a pattern. Then as you begin to make your centerpiece, you can use any variety of nautical elements to create your look. I happen to have a large oval platter with a fish embossed on it that I placed in the center of the table. This is what I will use for the entrée and vegetables. Thus, I put my nautical items on each end of the table on each side of the platter. Without such a platter, you can certainly place your centerpiece in the center of the table.I have two metal lighthouses that I have found extremely useful in summer decorating. I also used two wooden sailboats and scattered assorted seashells, starfish and coral. You can also use fishing nets, lifesaving rings, and faux fish. You can find these kinds of decorative items in craft, dollar or discount stores. They are very versatile in summer decorating–I have been using mine in different ways for many years.
Try your own nauticaI tablescape. I just love these colors and theme–I can hardly wait for summer to start! Enjoy!
