HaveThis Mother’s Day, when we are under lockdown, we will be celebrating at home. So we are the ones who need to set a pretty table for Mom for her very special meal. Make a plan and surprise her!
The family needs to decide if you all will have a formal meal or a casual meal–thus decision you are preparing or bringing in from a restaurant. Whether you are setting a formal table or a casual one will determine what table linens and china you use if your family has several. It may also determine if you eat in the dining room or kitchen.
Once you decide to go formal or casual, you need to choose your table linens and dishware. You may want to use a tablecloth or place-mats. You can overlay the cloth with a runner or second cloth laid on a diagonal. You can use placemats and overlay them with round mats or chargers. You can use one or two cloth napkins or paper ones. You can fold the napkins or put them in napkin rings. You can use bone china or stoneware as well as crystal, glass or acrylic drinkware. Your flatware can be silverware or stainless steel. Just be certain the style of your choices blend with the formality or informality of the entire tablesetting. You may make napkin rings for your Mother’s Day table. Beading and faux flowers are typical supplies that can be used. Placecards for the meal’s guests are a nice touch that family members can make. Keep the colors you use coordinated with the others for a most attractive look.
