Tablescape: Navy and Gold Tablesetting

If you eat at your kitchen or dining room table every day, you can get bored with no special tablesetting or the same old one you have used forever. This navy and gold tablesetting may give you some ideas that you can adapt to use at home. This dining table has a lovely brown wood top that hardly needs covering. I could have used a tablecloth, but I don’t think it was necessary. But if your tabletop is scarred, you may want to use a solid-color vinyl or fabric cloth as the underpinning of your tablescape.

I used four pretty gold and navy print cloth placemats on which I placed my gold French-style dinner plates. Make sure your dinnerware coordinates well with your placemats. I then used navy cotton napkins with brown wooden napkin rings. Paper napkins will work as well. The placesetting is completed with plain flatware and clear-glass pedestal water goblets and wine glasses. For a centerpiece, I used a long basket filled with brown wicker balls. Decorative balls of this sort are available in craft stores or home decor stores. They are often advertised as filler for vases so they might be in the floral supplies department and may come in colors. Some filler balls may be made of china.

If you need a basket, you might find a good selection at your local thrift or Goodwill store. My tablescape needed a long basket because of the table’s dimensions. Two matching oblong baskets would also work. If you have a round table, a round basket would work. Flowers or leaves can also be tucked into the balls in the basket. Candles could also be used on each end of the long basket.

If you need to move your centerpiece, it’s quite easy to do because the basket of balls is quite light and easy to move

However you set your table, coordinate your colors and decorate away. Enjoy!
